Hawks put up 109 while beating Cañada

Keith Hunter and Darius Limbrick combined for 45 points Wednesday night as the Hawks avenged an earlier loss to Cañada with a 109-86 victory in Livermore.

The victory improved LPC’s overall record to 17-8 and its Coast Conference North Division record to 7-3. The 109 points marked a season high for the Hawks, and the victory marked only the second time in LPC’s 10-year history that it has won 7 games in conference.

Hunter finished with 25 points, and Limbrick—making his second start of the season—finished with 20. Four other Hawks scored in double-figures: Cameron Moses (16 points), Kameron Johnson (14), Brandon Eboigbodin (13), and McKayle Harnell (10).

LPC has two conference games remaining, Feb. 17 against City College of San Francisco in Livermore, and Feb. 19 at Skyline. With the end of the regular season nearing, the Hawks are also playing for playoff positioning. LPC is currently ranked #19 in the state and #10 in Northern California.

The Hawks, who lost to Cañada 80-73 Jan. 13 to end its 10-game winning streak, started the game strongly, building an early 20-10 lead. LPC maintained its advantage most of the first half until Cañada, behind its three-point shooting, caught the Hawks, then went ahead 45-44 with 1:44 left in the half. It was 47-47 before Aaron Berry’s basket with 1 second left gave LPC a 49-47 halftime lead. Cañada made 7 three-pointers in the half.

The Colts cooled off in the second half, which began with the Hawks scoring the first 8 points to build its lead back to 10 (57-47). Cañada eventually cut its deficit in half at 63-58 before the Hawks went on another 8-0 run to go up 71-58. Limbrick scored 7 of those points, and after a Cañada bucket, Limbrick nailed a three, making it 74-60 midway through the half.

Cañada made 2 free throws before Hunter scored on a drive, Eboigbodin and Moses made a foul shot each, and Hunter nailed a three to cap a 7-0 spurt for an 81-62 advantage with 8:13 left. The Colts couldn’t get closer than 14 points the rest of the game.
