Desert beats Barstow in extra innings
Desert comes from behind to win in extra innings at Barstow
College of the Desert over came a four run deficit in a come from behind win at Barstow Community College. Barstow's Amelia McCaffrey pitched 8 complete innings scattering 7 hits and allowing 0 earned runs in the loss. College of the Desert capitalized on 5 seventh and eighth inning Viking errors and played clutch defense to mount the comeback. Desert's Angelika Cabanyog entered the game in the 4th inning down 4-0. Cabanyog pitched 5 innings in relief allowing just 2 earned runs and picking up the victory.
Briana Alcorn was a difference maker for the Roadrunners as she went 2-4 at the plate with a run scored and may have saved the game with a spectacular 2nd inning diving catch and then an over the shoulder play at the fence in center field to start the bottom of the seventh inning.
College of the Desert was down 6-2 entering the top of the sixth inning when they scored 2 unearned runs with 2 outs bringing the game in range for the seventh. Barstow Community College had multiple opportunities to close out the seventh inning - however the Vikings committed 4 errors in the top of the seventh and just could not close the game. Kalen Gopperton finished 1-3 on the day with a walk but it was her ground ball reach by error with two outs that brought the game to a tie. Barstow's Marissa Dado was outstanding finishing 3-4 on the afternoon with two runs scored, a double and an RBI. Liz Moreno reached by error in the top of the 8th and then scored on a Marlene Paniagua double - Desert's first lead of the game came in the top of the 8th inning and the one run held up in the bottom half.
