The Irvine Valley men's basketball team gave one of the top teams in the state all it could handle on Friday night at home.
Irvine Valley, ranked No. 28 in the state, led No. 10 Mt. San Antonio by as many as six points in the first half before going into the break by five.
But the Mounties rally in the second half and pull off a 68-56 win over the Lasers.
Irvine Valley's record went to 8-4 overall, while Mt. SAC improved to 9-1 on the year.
IVC was paced by freshman guard Yanis Aldeguer with 13 points. He was one of four Laser players to score in double figures.
Freshman forward Matt Mowers added 12 points, eight rebounds and two blocks, sophomore forward Josiah Reed added 11 points and four rebounds and sophomore guard Ammon Allan had 10 points and six rebounds.
Irvine Valley led, 34-29 at the half after shooting 45.5 percent (15 of 33) as a team from the field.
Mt. SAC took the lead for good minutes into the second half. Kenneth Brown sank a three-pointer to give the Mounties a 38-36 advantage with 17:36 to play.
The Mounties led by as many as 15 points in the final 20 minutes before winning by 12.
Jaidyn Simpson paced Mt. SAC with 25 points, six rebounds and four assists. He went 7 of 13 from the fied and madd 10 of 11 free throws in the game.
Marvel Chambers added 12 points and four steals and Brown had 11 points, 12 rebounds and four assists for the Mounties. Ryan Wheeer chipped in six points, eight rebounds and five blocks.
Irvine Valley plays again next Wednesday and starts Orange Empire Conferene play with a game at Fullerton at 6 p.m. The Hornets are ranked No. 2 in the state.
