Women's soccer team records third straight shutout win

The Irvine Valley women's soccer team is off to its best start in years.

The Lasers recorded their third straight shutout, defeating Cuyamaca, 5-0, at home on Tuesday.

IVC has outscored its last three opponents, 13-0.

Irvine Valley finished with 23 shots on the day.

The Lasers opened the scoring with a goal by sophomore forward Jocelyn Quinonez in the 10th minute. She powered a shot into the left corner off an assist from sophomore defender Faith Hong.

IVC added to its lead eight minutes later when freshman forward Nikki MacDonald scored off of a great shot from the right side.

MacDonald scored again three minutes later to give IVC a 3-0 advantage. She scored inside the far left post.

And the Lasers made it a 4-0 game just before half. Freshman Jessical Lopez scored off an assist from freshman forward Jordan Madison.

Irvine Valley finished its scoring in the 62nd minute when Madison volleyed in a shot off of a pass from freshman defender Samantha Ortiz.

Sophomore goalie Sydnee Salamoff played the first half and freshman Joanna Valdez was in for the second half. Neither goalie made a save.

Irvine Valley will rest, recover and practice over the next week and play again next Friday at home against Victory Valley at 4 p.m.
