The Irvine Valley women's volleyball team played another close match, but came up short in a four-set loss at Orange Coast in an Orange Empire Conference match on Wednesday.
The Lasers' record slipped to 0-10 overall and 0-2 in conference.
Orange Coast, ranked No. 10 in the state, improved to 10-1 overall and 2-0 in conference.
Irvine Valley is back in action at home on Friday against Golden West at 6 p.m.
IVC freshman opposite Hailey Oldham led the way with 11 kills.
Sophomore outside hitter Audrey Fowler had six kills and 11 digs and freshman setter Emmi Scelzo contributed 24 assists and 14 digs for the Lasers.
Nika Safavi led OCC with 22 kills and 19 digs. Caprie Troccoli added 11 kills and Jordan Packer ended with 38 assists and 13 digs for the Pirates.
IVC pulled within 17-14 in the first set, but Orange Coast scored the next five points to take control.
Irvine Valley hung around in the second set (17-13), but then OCC scored seven points in a row to take a two-set lead.
The third set was back and forth before Oldham wrapped things up for the Lasers with a kill for a 25-23 win.
Both teams traded points the rest of the way and on their lone set-point opportunity, an Oldham kill wrapped things up for the Lasers, who stayed alive with a 25-23 win.
It was another dogfight in the fourth set as both teams battled back and forth, with the Pirates clinging to a 20-19 advantage.
But Safavi came up with a pair of kills to highlight a mini 3-0 run, putting Coast up, 23-19.
A pair of IVC points put the celebration on pause before Coast ripped off the final two points to wrap up the match.
