Irvine Valley's men's basketball team saw its record slip to 8-8 overall and 0-3 in the Orange Empire Conference with a 68-58 defeat at Santa Ana on Friday night.
Santa Ana improved is mark to 11-5 overall and 1-2 in conference.
The Lasers took an early 2-0 lead on a layup by sophomore forward Josiah Reed off of an assist from freshman guard Allen Moser 14 seconds into the game.
And another Reed basket put IVC ahead, 4-2.
But that was Irvine Valley's last lead of the night.
Santa Ana led, 14-6, five minutes into the game.
Irvine Valley tied the contest at 29 on a three-pointer by Yanis Aldeguer off of an assist by sophomore guard Ammon Allan with 1:24 to play in the first half.
But Santa Ana scored the final seven points of the half to go up, 36-29, at the break.
Irvine Valley never got closer than six points in the final 20 minutes.
IVC was led by Allan with 15 points and three assists. Moser finished with 12 points and four assists, Aldeguer had 11 points, five rebounds and two assists and freshman forward Matt Mowers contributed 11 points and six rebounds.
The Lasers shot 35.8 percent (19 of 53) from the field as a team and 24.0 percent (6 of 25) from three-point range.
Santa Ana was paced by Jackson Brennan with 16 points, four rebounds and four assists, Kamaury Washington with 13 points and Kelvonte Ellis with eight points, 10 rebounds and three blocks.
Irvine Valley plays again next Wednesday, hosting Santiago Canyon in a conference contest at 6 p.m.
