Irvine Valley's baseball team stopped a three-game skid with a solid win over a good San Diego Mesa team on Thursday afternoon at home.
Irvine Valley came out on top, 7-1, scoring runs late to put the game away and improve its record to 6-5 overall.
The story of the day for the Lasers was what happened on the mound.
Freshman right-handers AJ Roettger and Zack Marker gave up just five hits and one run combined.
Roettger went five innings and allowed one run on five hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Marker relieved Roettger in the sixth and earned the win, going four innings on 38 pitches and shutting out the Olympians the rest of the way.
He didn't allow a hit over the four innings and had no walks. Marker also struck out four.
In a 1-1 game, Irvine Valley took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice bunt for a run by freshman Shaun McCaghren.
The Lasers put the game away in the bottom of the seventh on a three-run double to right field by freshman third baseman Nomar Vasquez to make it a 5-1 game.
Sophomore center fielder Shane Stafford, freshman second baseman Gavin Grutzmacher, and freshman left fielder Drew Seidel scored on the double.
Irvine Valley added runs in the eighth on a RBI double by sophomore catcher Jimmy Zakhar and a RBI single by Grutzmacher.
IVC finished with nine hits in the game. Vasquez had three RBI and Grutzmacher, freshman first baseman Jackson Snitko and sophomore shortstop Conner Hoskinson each contributed two hits on the day.
Irvine Valley is back at home for a game on Friday against Grossmont at 1 p.m.
