Oceanside, CA – October 1, 2024 – MiraCosta College continued its dominant form this season with an emphatic 6-0 victory over rival Palomar, further solidifying its spot atop the conference standings. The Spartans, who have controlled this rivalry for the better part of a decade, wasted no time asserting their dominance in this latest chapter, scoring five first-half goals to seal the result early.
Jazmyne Arispe opened the scoring just four minutes into the match, slotting home a cross from Charley Diaz to give MiraCosta the early lead. Lena Bachman followed up with a goal of her own at the 16-minute mark, courtesy of a brilliant assist from Arispe. Bachman wasn't done, as she netted her second goal of the match just 13 minutes later, extending MiraCosta's lead to 4-0 by the half-hour mark.
Shelby Maldonado and Jade Valentine each added goals before halftime, with Valentine's effort assisted by Joey Freas to make it 5-0 at the break. MiraCosta kept the pressure on throughout the second half, and Freas capped off the scoring in the 89th minute with a goal assisted once again by Charley Diaz.
MiraCosta's defense was solid, with goalkeeper Arely Sarabia keeping a clean sheet, facing only one shot on goal from Palomar throughout the match. The Spartans' relentless attack, combined with a suffocating defense, held Palomar to zero shots on target for the entire 90 minutes.
The victory keeps MiraCosta tied for first place in the conference as they aim for a conference championship and a deep postseason run. With a potent attack and airtight defense, the Spartans are proving to be a force to be reckoned with.
