Patlan’s Inside the Park Homerun Highlights Series-Opener against Golden West
The Santiago Canyon College softball team looked to rebound after a competitive series against top-ranked Fullerton by facing off against the Golden West College Rustlers on the road. In the first game of the three-game set, the Hawks jumped out to an early one-run lead but ultimately surrendered the advantage succumbing to an 8-4 loss.
Sophomore center fielder Alyssa Patlan gave the Hawks their lone lead of the contest by putting them on the board in the top of the first inning by blasting a one out, inside the park homerun. She finished the game with a 2-for-3 clip that accounted for a pair of runs scored and an RBI.
Freshman first baseman Kaitlin Murphy went 2-for-3 after barreling an RBI triple in the top of the sixth inning to score freshman designated player Isabella Altamirano. Prior to her triple, Altamirano squared up a double in the right center gap that plated freshman second baseman Millie Maher and Patlan.
Sophomore hurler Madison Lee was tossed the pearl and blanked the Rustlers through the first two frames. She retired the side in the second inning capped by a punchout, but a two-run third inning and a six-run fourth inning dampened the Hawk's wings.
Freshman reliever Nadeen Kerdiya entered with one out in the fourth inning. Despite walking six batters, she allowed just one hit and struck out four batters in 2.2 innings of scoreless work.
Over the last 10.2 innings pitched, N. Kerdiya has allowed just eight hits.
