Irvine Valley's women's soccer team moved its record to 6-3-0 overall with an important 1-0 win over Santa Ana on Friday at home.
The Lasers also improved their mark in conference to 1-1-0. Santa Ana's record went to 1-4-2 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play.
Irvine Valley finished with nine shots in the contest, with the goal coming in the 51st minute.
Sophomore forward Jordan Madison flicked a ball into the back of the net off of a cross from the right side from sophomore midfielder Faith Hong.
It was Madison's sixth goal of the season, which ranks second on the team.
Hong recorded her third assist on the year.
And then the Lasers held on the rest of the way.
Irvine Valley had a couple of anxious moments in the second half as Santa Ana pushed forward, but sophomore goalie Sydnee Salamoff came up with two big saves in the final 45 minutes to help record the shutout.
IVC moved to fifth in the standings in the conference after two matches.
Irvine Valley plays again on Tuesday against No. 1 in the state Cypress on the road at 3 p.m.
