Riverside City College kept rolling with a pair of wins Saturday, defeating Cuesta College 7-4 and 12-8.
The Tigers improve to 3-0 with their first series sweep of the year, while the Cougars slip to 0-3 to start the season.
Cuesta struck first in both games – like it had the day before – but RCC always had a response.
In the opener, the Cougars put two runs on the board in the top of the first, but the Tigers answered back with two of their own in the bottom half of the inning. With two outs and two runners on, Luke Medure (2-for-2) and Marc DiCarlo Jr. (2-for-3) had back-to-back RBI infield singles to tie the game up.
Riverside took control of the game with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and added two more in the seventh to secure the victory.
Dylan Escobar grabbed the win on the mound for RCC, while Andrew Martin picked up a save.
After Cuesta opened with three runs in the first inning of the nightcap, Riverside exploded for seven runs in the bottom half of the frame to set the tone early. Malakai Lopez (1-for-2) started the scoring spree with a two-RBI base hit before Jake Monsen (1-for-3) knocked an RBI single and Parker Sobiesiak (3-for-5) drilled a ground-rule double to put the Tigers in front, 5-3. Bubba Heidler (2-for-5) capped the scoring with a base hit to center, sending in two more runs for RCC.
The Tigers kept rolling and added four runs in the bottom of the second to take a commanding 11-4 lead. Darin Osterloh accounted for three of the four runs after driving in two with a triple down the left-field line and then coming home on a passed ball.
Cuesta tried to rally back and pulled within four after taking advantage of some Tiger mishaps in the top of the ninth, but Cadin Gates shut down any chance of a comeback by catching the final batter swinging.
Jake Valenzuela picked up the win on the mound for the Tigers and finished with three strikeouts and no runs scored.
RCC looks to keep building momentum as East Los Angeles comes to town for a Friday night contest under the lights at Totman Stadium at California Baptist University.
