
The VC men's tennis team ended the regular season on Monday with a 9-0 sweep over 4-year NAIA school Hope International. Yanis Guerrout and Leo Pham each won singles matches in super tiebreakers to complete the sweep while Max Beaudry and Manolo Vanbesien started the day with a solid win in No. 3 doubles. Rafael Matias, Yusen Sato and Haru Nakayama joined Guerrout as double-winners on the day.
Beaudry and Vanbesien won their No. 3 doubles contest 6-1while Matias and Guerrout claimed Court 1, 6-2. Sato and Nakayama put VC ahead 3-0 with a 6-4 triumph in No. 2 doubles.
Matias had a solid two and love victory on Court 1 in singles while Ariitea Cotti-Helme won the No. 5 singles contest, 6-4, 6-0. Nakayama prevailed in No. 4 singles 6-2, 6-4 and Sato won Court 3 with a second-set tiebreaker, 6-3, 7-6 (10-8). Pham survived the No. 6 singles match 6-1, 2-6, (10-8) while Guerrout closed out the sweep with a 6-3, 0-6, (10-8) super-tiebreaker victory.
Ventura closes the regular season with a 13-3 overall record, including an 11-0 mark against community college teams. The Pirates next will play in the Western State Conference singles and doubles championships later this week at the VC Tennis Center.
