Playing their first road series of the season, the Cerritos College baseball team jumped out to a 12-0 lead through the first three innings against host Bakersfield College on their way to a 16-2 win. Not only was it the first road series, the Falcons (5-1) also played their first game of the season under the lights, which didn't seem to hurt their bats. The teams will play the second game of their three-game series at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

It was an eight-run second innings that got things started for Cerritos, who received not only a three-run double, but a three-run home run. With one out, sophomore second baseman Dylan Immel (El Segundo HS) singled, followed by a walk to freshman third baseman Mateo Heredia (El Segundo HS). After an error loaded the bases, freshman shortstop Lucas Scott (Long Beach Poly HS) gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead with an RBI single. Freshman outfielder Owen Martin (Narbonne HS) followed by clearing the bases with a a double. Sophomore Diego Orozco (Long Beach Wilson HS) drew the first of his four walks on the night, which was followed by an RBI double from sophomore outfielder Evan Saito (Torrance HS). Freshman designated hitter Brody Cuellar (Bishop Montgomery HS) cleared the bases with a three-run home run and an 8-0 lead.

Orozco's four walks in the game were the most by a Cerritos player since Alex Bueno drew five walks against Compton College on April 4, 2019.

Sophomore pitcher Noah Andrunas (Gahr HS/UC Riverside) was the recipient of the offensive support, as he went on to toss the first six innings also allowed two runs on seven hits and struck out 14 batters. The 14 punchouts were the most by a Cerritos pitcher since John Ortega struck out 14 Compton College batters in seven innings in 2007. Sophomore Holden Hungerford (Warren HS/Cal State Los Angeles) came on in relief for his first appearance of the season in the seventh inning. He tossed two shutout innings and struck out three batters before Nicholas Moreno (Katella HS) came on to pitch the ninth inning.

Continuing their offensive attack, Martin was hit by a pitch with one out in the third inning and advanced to second base on a walk to Orozco. After Saito singled to load the bases, Cuellar picked up his fourth RBI with a walk, which brought in Martin. Then, with two outs, Immel brought in a run with a bases loaded walk, with Heredia following with a two-run single.

Cerritos picked up two more runs in the seventh inning, as the majority of the starting lineup was given the rest of the night off. Freshman pinch-hitter CJ Berthon (Los Alamitos HS) led off with a double and came home on a single from Heredia. Martin plated the second run of the inning with base hit, which was his fourth RBI of the night. The eighth inning saw freshman pinch-hitter Phillip Kang (Huntington Beach HS) lead off with a walk and came around to eventually score on a single from sophomore catcher Ryan Reyes (Los Alamitos HS). A third walk in the inning to freshman pinch-hitter Ricky Ahumada (Torrance HS) with the bases loaded brought in the final run.
