
The Pirate baseball team dropped a 10-4 decision at Irvine Valley College Tuesday afternoon in non-conference play. Daniel Aguilera had three hits and a pair of runs batted in while Hector Pina recorded three singles and scored a run. Grant Rodriguez had a single and a double and also plated a score for the Pirates. The VC bullpen threw three innings scattering four hits and striking out three while giving up a single run.
Ventura and starting pitcher Ben Drumheller got off to a rough start, yielding seven runs, two unearned, in the first two innings. After that, the Pirates settled in as Drumheller posted zero's in the third and fourth.
VC got on the board in the top of the third inning. Henry Borjas led off with a single and Frederico Tiburtini walked. One out later Pina singled to load the bases. Aguilera then hit an RBI single before Lucas Martinov reached base on an error, scoring two more runs.
In the top of the fifth, Rodriguez walked with one out and moved to second on Pina's single. Aguilera followed with an RBI single to pull Ventrura to within 7-4.
Unfortunately, the Lasers scored two more runs in the bottom of the fifth, and another in the sixth to set the final 10-4 margin.
Austin Kurr pitched the sixth inning for VC, giving up one run, while Aiden Demello and Jaden Valdez each threw scoreless frames. Valdez struck out batters for all three outs in the eighth.
The Pirates home game scheduled for Friday Feb. 7 against Riverside has been moved to a double-header at Riverside on Saturday Feb. 8. VC returns home on Thursday Feb. 13 against El Camino.
