TAFT – The Lemoore College women's volleyball team had a tough time matching up with one of the top squads in the state and suffered a 3-0 loss at No. 17 state-ranked Taft College on Friday.
The Golden Eagles lost the Central Valley Conference match by scores of 25-14, 25-13, and 25-21.
Lemoore head coach Kevin Wilds pointed out the play of freshman Mhaycel De La Cruz. De La Cruz, a 5-2 defensive specialist, played outside hitter and totaled 3 kills to go along with 11 digs.
"She stepped up and played outside for us," said Wilds. "She did an excellent job and got kills against a player twice her size."
Also for the Golden Eagles, Mia Elizondo led with 5 kills, Amaya Keovilaysane-Ruiz had 12 assists, and Adrianne Davis totaled 13 digs.
Lemoore fell to 6-8 overall and 1-3 in the Central Valley Conference. The Golden Eagles are back in action on Wednesday (Oct. 2) when they play at Porterville College.
