Cubs win conference opener

The LACC Men's Soccer team kicked off the South Coast Conference this Tuesday against a strong visiting Pasadena City College. The Lancers were coming off a great preseason with a record of 6-2-2, and the Cubs knew it would be a tough match.

LACC would get off to a good start as their offense would go on to the attack from the first minute and would outshoot Pasadena 11 to 4 shots in the first half, but the Lancers would hold on to prevent any score with a disciplined defense. The Cubs seemed to control the pace of the game, but the Lancers proved to be dangerous, and LACC would showcase their defensive skills in the first half and both teams would go into the second half tied 0-0.

In the second half it would be LACC's pressure and constant attack that would prove to help LACC score their first goal as the Lancers would make a pass back mistake to their goalkeeper and score an own goal to give LACC the lead with 36 minutes left in the second half. This would push Pasadena on to the attack in the last minutes of the game, but it would not be enough as defender Juan Lopez would help reinforce the defense of Eduardo Campos, Vicente Martinez, Ivan Gutierrez, Erik Perez, and goalkeeper Edward Fletes to close the game with their 8th shutout of the season. This would also give the opportunity for the offense to take advantage of a tired defense when sophomore Emmanuel Perez was able to give a great cross to Andrew Luna who would shoot and assist sophomore Felipe Alvarez with a late insurance goal with 2 minutes left on the clock.

The LACC Men's soccer team now improves to 8-2-2 record and 1-0 conference record. They will now face El Camino College , on Friday October 7th at 7pm.
