The MSJC baseball team earned their first win of the season on Saturday as they traveled to San Diego City and came away with a 6-1 victory.

The Eagles received a strong starting pitching performance from Chad Horton as he threw 7 shutout innings allowing 7 hits and striking out three. Gavin Warner threw the eighth inning allowing the Knights lone run of the game before Marcos Cisneros closed out the win with a scoreless ninth on the hill.

The MSJC offense did their damage in fourth and sixth innings. In the top of the fourth Steven Kirtides had an RBI double while Louie Arias added an RBI ground out to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead. In the sixth the Knights ran into some trouble with walks, hit batters, and wild pitches as the MSJC took advantage to score four runs. Juni Rodriguez had an RBI sacrifice fly in the inning. Kirtides finished the afternoon with 3 hits and Luke O'Brien added a double.

The win for the Eagles came after a couple tough losses to Grossmont. Last Tuesday at home MSJC fell behind and couldn't make it all the way back as they lost to the Griffons 7-4. Matt Rezkalah had two RBIs for the MSJC in the loss. Thursday in the rematch at Grossmont the Eagles took an early 2-0 lead but could not hold it as they fell 15-8. Ryan Rangel had two RBIs in that one and O'Brien hit his second home run of the season.

MSJC is now 1-4 for the year and have three games on the schedule this week. Tuesday the Eagles will host Long Beach City at 1pm, Thursday MSJC welcomes El Camino to town also for a 1 pm game. Saturday the Eagles will take a trip to El Camino for a noon game to wrap up the week.
