COD (12-2-1; 4-0-1) took their #18 statewide ranking and held their own against one of the top teams in the Conference, as Desert remained unbeaten in their last 7 games, sweeping the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles of Menifee (7-5-5; 3-3) for the first time since 2021, 3-1.
The Roadrunners played against the Mt. San Jacinto Eagles for the first time in program history in 1997 and hold an 11-28-7 overall record against Mt. San Jacinto. Desert has an 8-15-1 record against the Eagles at home.
Freshman goal keeper Ana Rojas (Indio Shadow Hills) played all 90 minutes, facing 20 total shots on the day with 8 on goal, making 7 saves for her second best save total of the season and 7th win of the season. Sophomore midfielder Eva Lupita Torres (Thermal Coachella Valley) opened up the scoreing in the 10th minute, scoring her team leading 8th goal of the season and giving the Roadrunners an early 1-0 lead. Sophomore midfielder Ruby Segura (Rancho Mirage H.S.) scored her 7th goal of the season in the 16th minute off of a rebound off of the Eagles keeper, giving Desert a commanding 2-0 lead. Segura would help add to that total in the 25th minute as she conencted with sophomore forward Amerie Felix (Thermal Desert Mirage) for her 4th goal of the season, giving the home side a 3-0 lead.
The next match-up for the #18 Roadrunners will be at the San Bernardino Valley Wolverines (5-9-1; 1-3-1) on Friday, October 25 at 4p. The Roadrunners played against San Bernardino Valley for the first time in program history in 1998, back when San Bernardino Valley was known as the Indians, and hold a 12-30-7 overall record against the Wolverines. Desert has an 4-15-3 record against the Wolverines in San Bernardino. In 2023, Desert won at San Bernardino Valley 2-1 on October 17 and then tied 3-3 in Palm Desert on November 3. The next home match for the Roadrunners will be on Tuesday, October 29 at 4p, when the Victor Valley Rams of Victorville will be in Palm Desert for Sophomore Day. The Roadrunners played against Victor Valley for the first time in program history in 1998 and hold a 13-25-7 overall record against them. Desert has a 9-12-1 record against the Rams in Palm Desert. Earlier this season, Desert won at Victor Valley 3-0 on October 11.
