COD Women’s Soccer wins Conference for 1st time ever, heads to playoffs

COD (15-2-3; 7-0-3) were named co-Conference Champions for the first time in program history and are headed to the 3C2A SoCal Regional Playoffs for the first time since 1998, as the Roadrunners swept the season series over the San Bernardino Valley Wolverines (6-13-1; 2-7-1), 3-0.

The Roadrunners played against San Bernardino Valley for the first time in program history in 1998, back when San Bernardino Valley was known as the Indians, and hold a 14-30-7 overall record against them. Desert has an 9-15-4 record against the Wolverines in Palm Desert. Earlier this season, Desert won at the Wolverines 2-0 on October 25.

Freshman goal keeper Ana Rojas (Indio Shadow Hills) received the start, making 5 saves and freshman goal keeper Isabella Morrison (Palm Springs H.S.) finished off the clean sheet to wrap up the 2024 regular season. Sophomore forward Fabiana Zavala (Thermal Desert Mirage) scored just under 3 minutes into the game and Desert took a 1-0 lead. Roughly 6 minutes later, sophomore midfielder Ruby Segura (Rancho Mirage H.S.) found sophomore forward Amerie Felix (Thermal Desert Mirage) for here 7th goal of the season, giving the Roadrunners a 2-0 lead, which held until halftime. Sophomore midfielder Ximena Perez-Anguiano (Indio Shadow Hills) would score her team leading 10th goal of the season on an assist from Zavala in the 61st minute.

The next match-up for the Roadrunners will most likely be the 3C2A SoCal Regional Playoffs Play-In Round on Wednesday, November 20, time is TBA. The next regular season game will be Wednesday, August 27, 2025, hopefully against one of the six teams that Desert has never faced in program history: Bakersfield, LA Pierce, Moorpark, Santa Barbara City, Orange Coast or Canyons.
