COD Baseball will travel to #1 Cerritos Friday in SoCal Regionals

COD Baseball has claimed the #24 seed and will travel in the opening round of the SoCal Regional playoffs after finishing 3rd in Conference.

State Playoffs Ticket Prices are as follows: General Admission is $12. Faculty, Staff, Children Under 12, Adults 60+ & Students w/ Valid A.S. card are $8. There are no guest passes allowed.

The best-of-3 series will take place on the campus of Cerritos College at Wally Kincaid Field. Friday first pitch of game 1 will be at 2 p.m., Saturday first pitch of game 2 will be at 10 a.m. where the game will be played at Cerritos College, but the Roadrunners will be the "home" team and if necessary, game 3 will be on Saturday at 2 p.m. The series will also coincide with a regional cool down, as inland Los Angeles County temperatures expected to be 77 on Friday and 71 on Saturday.

Cerritos will be charging admissions for both days separately. There will be two ways to pay for the event: (1) You can pre-purchase your tickets online through Eventbrite (LINK: Day 1 Tickets) (LINK: Day 2 Tickets) or (2) You may purchase your tickets at the gate and only cash will be accepted.

Under the tutelage of fourth-year head coach Sam DiMatteo, the #24 seeded Roadrunners Baseball team ended the 2024 season claiming their third consecutive playoff berth.

DiMatteo guided the Roadrunners, finishing to the regular season with a 21-19 overall record and an 15-9 conference record. They were rewarded with the 24 seed in the Southern California Regional Playoffs along with 3 First Team selections (Trevor Stowe, Eric Arreola & Aiden Arriaga) and 4 Second Team selections (Braden Turner, Samuele Bruno, Nicolas Ely & Adam Moser).

Desert will face off with a Cerritos Falcons team that finished the regular season with a record of 32-8, the Falcons ended the 2024 season as Champions of the South Coast Conference (SCC) ending the season with an SCC record of 19-5. The Falcons started the season 8-2 and have won 10 of their last 13 games.

Cerritos finished the 2023 season in 8th place in the SCC with a record of 6-18, with an overall record of 10-29. The Falcons were most recently in the playoffs in the 2018 season entering the Southern California Regional's as the 1st seed, Cerritos swept the #17 seeded Los Angeles Pierce Brahmas, 2 games to 0 (7-6, 9-4) then fell in the Super Regional to the #11 seeded El Camino Warriors of Torrance, 2 games to 0 (6-2, 7-5). The Falcons are coached by Nate Fernley in his 1st season. Fernley arrived at "Birdland" in 2024 after spending the previous 16 seasons as the head coach at El Camino College.

Desert and Cerritos last played one another on January 30, 2024. The Falcons won 15-1. In the over 60-year history of Roadrunners Baseball, neither team had faced one another until 2023.

The winner of Friday and Saturday's best-of-three game first-round contest will advance to face the Super Regionals on May 9-11. The CCCAA Baseball State Championship will take place on May 25-27 at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut.
