COD Women’s Soccer rolls over the Rams, 6-2

COD (14-2-1; 6-0-1) took their #20 statewide ranking into Sophomore Day, scoring within the first 2 minutes and never looked back, as the Roadrunners extended their unbeaten streak to 9 games, sweeping the season series over the Victor Valley Rams of Victorville (2-14-1; 0-7), 6-2.

With today's win, the Roadrunners also extended their unbeaten streak over the Rams to 5 games.  The Roadrunners played against Victor Valley for the first time in program history in 1998 and hold a 14-25-7 overall record against them. Desert has a 10-12-1 record against the Rams in Palm Desert. Earlier this season, Desert won at Victor Valley 3-0 on October 11.

Sophomore goal keeper Zamara Cervantes (Thermal Coachella Valley) made her third start of the season and first complete game of the season, facing 5 shots on goal and making 3 saves. Sophomore midfielder Eva Lupita Torres (Thermal Coachella Valley) got the goal scoring starting in the 3rd minute, with her team leading 9th goal of the season off of an assist from fellow sophomore, midfielder Sophie Hill (Palm Desert H.S.), giving the Roadrunners a 1-0 lead. Sophomore forward Fabiana Zavala (Thermal Desert Mirage) scored her 8th goal of the season in the 22nd minute off of an assist from freshman defender Layla Soto (Palm Springs H.S.) to give Desert a 2-0 advantage. Sophomore forward Amerie Felix (Thermal Desert Mirage) scored her 5th of the season in the 27th minute on an assist from freshman defender Joselyn Benitez (Palm Springs H.S.) to give the Roadrunners a 3-0 lead. Sophomore midfielder Ximena Perez-Anguiano (Indio Shadow Hills) scored her 8th of the season on a penalty kick in the 31st minute, giving the home side a 4-0 lead, which they carried into halftime.

In the second half, Victor Valley got on the scoreboard in the 51st and 54th minutes, but Desert would respond in the 62nd minute, when freshman midfielder Jimena Monje (Palm Desert H.S.) fed freshman midfielder Myla Faddis (Palm Desert H.S.) her 4th goal of the season to gain a 5-2 lead. In the 84th minute, Desert added one more goal, this time sophomore midfielder Miranda Salcido (Indio Shadow Hills) pushed a through ball to freshman midfielder Kimberly Arellano (Palm Springs H.S.) for her first of the season, giving the Roadrunners a 6-2 win.
 
The next match-up for the #14 Roadrunners will be on Friday, November 1 at 2p as they host the Norco Mustangs (3-10-3; 1-3-2). The Roadrunners played against Norco for the first time in program history in 2014 and hold a 7-3-1 overall record against the Mustangs. Desert has a 3-0-1 record against the Mustangs in Palm Desert. Earlier this season, Desert won at Norco 4-1 on October 15.
