COD Football rolls over the Rams in Bowl game warm-up, 48-21

COD (8-2; 4-1) made their final regular season appearance on the road in the cold and windy conditions of the high desert, rolling up the Victor Valley Rams of Victorville (4-6; 2-3), 48-21.

Desert will have to wait until after the SCFA Coaches Meeting on Sunday, November 20th to find out who they may play in a Bowl Game. At that same meeting coaches choose All-Conference and All-Region selections as well as who will be playing in a Bowl Game. All Bowl Games are cross Divisional, meaning that there is a probability that Desert may face-off with Glendale or Citrus for a second time this season, or maybe Santa Ana. Santa Barbara City would host any Bowl game, but if Desert faces Moorpark, who knows? It is up in the air until at least Monday morning, November 21st.

Sophomore wide receiver Donald Johnson (Casa Grande (AZ) Casa Grande Union) had his biggest yardage game of the season, 132 yards on 6 receptions and two scores. Johnson grabbed the bulk of his yards in the opening seconds of the game on a 78 scamper-and-score to get the Roadrunners on the scoreboard early. Sophomore wide receiver Kevin Johnson (Indio Shadow Hills) also had two touchdowns on the afternoon, on 3 catches for 53 yards. Freshman running back Ilyas Abdullah (Playa del Rey Westchester Enriched Sciences) had his second-best rushing game of the season, as he scrambled 96 yards on 19 carries for the Roadrunners. Freshman defensive back Jaylen Carter (Dearborn Heights (MI) Robichaud) had a 58-yard pick-6 midway through the second quarter, to give Desert a 28-7 lead. Freshman defensive back Rae'Jon Lavender (Detroit (MI) Early College of Excellence) led the way with seven tackles on the afternoon.

The Roadrunners faced the Victor Valley Rams of Victorville for the first time in program history in 1967 and have a 34-10 overall record against the Rams. Desert has a 13-6 record in Victorville over the course of this series.
