College of the Canyons and Bakersfield capture Western State Conference Cross Country Championships
Canyons secures WSC women's cross country crown, Cuesta's Fletcher wins individual title
OXNARD, Calif. - College of the Canyons closed the regular season by earning the Western State Conference Women's Cross Country Champion title for the first time in program history while competing in Oxnard. The first 14 finishers at the finals received First Team All-Conference honors, while those finishing 15-28 were Second Team All-Conference designees. The Cougars, who had been competing with a short-handed roster for weeks, saw six individuals finish amongst the top 30 racers en route to the race for the title. Freshman Victoria Jamison led the way for COC with a runner-up time of 18:19.3. She was followed by Alyssa Arriage (10th/19:47.5), Katelyn Catu (11th/19:50.8), and Lilianna Moreira (13th/19:52.8) who all broke the 20-minute barrier to secure the win for Canyons.
Cuesta's Madeline Fletcher finished atop the field of 72 individuals and posted a winning time of 18:08.5, dropping more than a minute off her best time of the year. She becomes the first member of the Cougar's program to claim the WSC title since Miranda Daschian in 2016.
Team qualifiers and individual qualifiers will now advance to compete at the 3C2A Southern California Championships on Friday, Nov. 8, at Chaffey College.

Bakersfield Repeats as the WSC Men's Cross Country Champions, AHC's Gutierrez Snags Individual Title
OXNARD, Calif. - The Bakersfield College men's cross country team snagged the Western State Conference crown for a second consecutive season after a stellar performance at the regular season finale on Friday in Oxnard. The first 14 finishers at the finals received First Team All-Conference honors, while those finishing 15-28 were Second Team All-Conference designees. The Renegades saw five individuals finish in the top-15 en route to the title effort. Jacob Perez and Atzin Anguiano led the way with second and third place finishes, respectively. Robert Chavez, Sergio Lizarraga, and Alexis Aguilar rounded out the top performers by sweeping the 13-15 slots.
Allan Hancock's John Gutierrez was the top individual racer in the field of 110 athletes and finished nearly 20 seconds ahead of the pack with a final time of 20:02.1. He becomes just the sixth individual on record for the program to earn a conference championship title in men's cross country and first to claim the crown since Quinton Morely in 1989.
