Mounties continue winning ways with Southern California women's cross country championship
SANTA CLARITA, Calif. - The Mt. SAC Women's Cross Country team took home another championship, but this title tops all of the others this season as they captured the CCCAA Southern California Regional Championships Friday at Central Park in Santa Clarita.
The Mounties, winners of the South Coast Conference championships, Mt. SAC Invite and the Tour de Cuesta Invite in the last month, placed three runners in the top 13 positions in route to a 16-point victory (78-94) over Ventura.
The Mounties, who have finished as high as second in the last 11 years in the So Cal Regionals, placed runners in the 8th and 9th positions in the 5K run.
Olivia Valderrama (19:30) and Teresa Castillo (19:37) paced the Mounties in 8th and 9th, followed by a 13th-place finish from Maria Castello(19:48).
Mt. SAC was the only team to place two runners in the top ten.
Rebecca Ruiz (20:09) and Hannah Batchelor (20:18) finished 23rd and 25th respectively out of the 189 runners for the Mounties in the final two points positions.
Mt. SAC, which has won seven state titles, with the last one coming in 2014, will aim for an eighth on Saturday Nov. 18 in Fresno at the CCCAA Championships at Woodward Park.
