CCCAA Women's Water Polo: Scoreboard l Standings l Rankings
SARATOGA - The West Valley women's water polo team opened the 2019 Coast Conference season with convincing 20-0 and 15-3 wins over Laney and Ohlone, respectively, Wednesday in Saratoga.
The Vikings (8-2, 2-0 Coast) jumped out to a 9-0 first period lead against Laney and then played conservatively the rest of the way. Emily Fields, Heather Gray and Maryam Khatoon scored four goals apiece, while Maria Higginbotham recorded a goal and three assists. Goalkeeper Raquel de Pinho took advantage of some time in the field with two goals and two assists.
Nadja Novakovic netted a game-high five goals in the late game against Ohlone. Sierra Ceballos, Alexis Goldin and Giovanna Valente Cardenuto all found the back of the net twice, while Khatoon had a goal and three assists. De Pinho had five assists to go along with 11 saves in goal.
The Vikings travel to the Mt. SAC Invitational this weekend.
