(PASADENA) -- Feather River figured it would top a 5-win week with something better--six wins over a 3-day span this past week as it has solidified its spot as the No. 1 ranked team in the third 2019 CCCWVCA State Women's Volleyball Top 25 released Monday evening.
The Golden Eagles are 19-0 overall and for the second time this season was pressed by #3 Fresno City but passed another test with a second 5-set win over the Rams. No other team in the state has more than 12 wins and few play as tough a pre-conference schedule annually than FRC. The North region has experienced recent success after a long period of South dominance.
At #2, Irvine Valley remains the only other undefeated school at 8-0 and is the South's top team again so far this year as it performed last year. The Lasers defeated Fullerton in four sets to open the Orange Empire Conference schedule.
Fresno had an 8-match win streak snapped by Feather River after holding a 2-1 sets lead. FCC swept #8 San Joaquin Delta at the Delta-hosted classic earlier that day. Fresno won its first two Central Valley Conference matches to extend its state-longest conference-only win streak to 114 in a row.
The rest of the top 10 has Grossmont remain at #4, West Valley, a 4-set winner over #21 Sierra, at #5, MiraCosta moving up a slot to #6 after a 2-0 start to Pacific Coast Athletic Conference play, Moorpark climbing five spots to #7 with a 4-set win over Bakersfield despite being upset by Canyons, Delta dropping to #8, Folsom Lake winning two nail-biters to five sets over #23 De Anza and #18 American River, and Bakersfield falling two spots to #10.
Chaffey, on an 8-match win streak, had one of the biggest jumps in moving up eight spots to #15. New #13 El Camino was another team on the rise (up six slots) after stopping #22 Orange Coast's 7-match victory streak.
New teams on this ranking are #16 Santa Rosa, with big wins over #17 Cabrillo and #20 Butte, #24 Foothill, a winner over Butte, and a return to the Top 25 for Long Beach City, an upset winner in 5 over #12 Cypress, and Canyons, beating Moorpark in 4, as they both tied Solano for the final spot on the rankings.
