Pierce Goes Undefeated in Brahma Tourney Over Weekend

2Pierce Women?s Volleyball Team (15-2, 0-0) hosted its Seventh Brahma Invitational and went undefeated on the weekend.

vs. #22Butte - The Brahmas outhit the Roadrunners 38 to 22 kills and and had a season high 12 aces. Sophomore middle blocker, Shanon Volpis, continues to be stellar at the net amassing 10 kills out of 14 attempts. Sophomore outside hitter, Whitley Doss, added 8 kills and hit 0.429 (hitting efficiency) on the match. Sophomore outside hitter, Tamia Files, came off the bench to score 5 kills and played extremely well in clutch situations.

vs. #18Moorpark - The Brahmas put on their best performance of the season against a very physical Raiders team. The Brahmas and Raiders each committed only 14 errors on the match, but the Brahmas out hit the Raiders 47 to 23 kills (Pierce had a season high in a single game with 19 kills in game 1). Sophomore setter, Peyton Moyles, had 40 assists. Shanon had 9 kills and no errors. Sophomore setter/opp, Hayley Alvarez, had 7 kills and hit 0.400 (hitting efficiency) on the match.

vs. #3Santa Barbara City College (Tourney Finals) - It was another showdown between two of the best teams in the State: #2Pierce vs. #3Santa Barbara. Three weeks after facing each other in the finals of the Pierce Kickoff Classic, the two teams face each other again, and the match was another exciting one between the two storied programs; The Brahmas swept the Vaqueros for their second victory against SBCC this season. The Brahmas dominated the net by out hitting the Vaqueros 47 to 27 kills. On the match, the Brahmas had great performances from Cassidy Rosso (18 kills), Hayley Alvarez (7 kills and a team high 6 aces). Freshman outside hitter, Anika Lewis, had her best match of the season coming off the bench by scoring 11 kills on 29 attempts.

Up Next - Pierce and Santa Barbara will meet for the third time this season for an inter divisional Western State Conference showdown this coming Friday (September 30) at Pierce.
