Annie Mitchem Earns AVCA Player of the Year Honors

IVC's Annie Mitchem and Tom Pestolesi are pictured below with Olympic Champion Kerri Walsh-Jennings at the 2013 AVCA Convention held in Seattle this past December.  

Annie Mitchem from Irvine Valley College was honored last month at the 2013 AVCA All-American/Players of the Year Banquet in Seattle, WA as the AVCA Two-Year College Player of the Year. Annie was honored along with the 2013 AVCA Division I, II, III and NAIA All Americans and Players of the Year. 

Mitchem led the State in total blocks (137) and blocks per set (1.61). She was also amongst the league leaders in kills, kills per set, hitting percentage, points and points per set. She helped to lead her team to a 24-2 record and a third place finish in State.  

Along with Annie, Irvine Valley College Volleyball Head Coach Tom Pestolesi was honored as the AVCA 2-Year California Region Coach of the year a few days earlier at the Coaches Honors Banquet which honors Coaches of the Year from High School through Division I.
