Cypress women's tennis picks up first win in two years with 5-4 victory over Cerritos

CYPRESS - The Cypress College women's tennis team secured their first win in two years on Thursday afternoon. The Chargers traveled to Cerritos for a nonconference match and came out victorious in a 5-4 battle.
The Chargers showed a new found confidence early in the day where they started out strong winning doubles, 2-1. Elizabeth Rodriguez and Jayda Steele played their first match as a pair, and showed great footwork performing out of the one slot. They pulled out the first victory of the day for Cypress, winning the match in two sets. Gabby Le and Kailyn Fabros were paired up in the three positon where they looked to secure the win in doubles play. Cypress got out to an early lead in the set but Cerritos battled back to make the score 6-5. The Chargers kept their composure and secured the victory 8-5.
As the single matches began you could see that Cypress had some bounce in their step. Elizabeth Rodriguez made her debut playing in the one slot. Her ground stroke was dominant and left her opponent scrambling. She won her match comfortably 6-2, 6-0. Jayda Steele found herself facing a deficit, 3-2, in the first set and fought back in an impressive victory 6-3. She used her momentum to take the next set 6-0, to seal the victory. Kaylene Fabros brought the energy in the last singles battle to clinch the match for Cypress.
This victory is monumental for the Chargers as it is their first win in a tennis match in two years.
