Ian Man Wong Crowned NATYCCA Scholar Athlete of the Year

San Diego Mesa College Swim and Dive team proudly announces that swimmer, Ian Man Wong has been selected as the 2015 Female National Scholar-Athlete. Wong was selected by the National Alliance of Two Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA) against a pool consisting of all female community college student-athletes across the nation. The sophomore swimmer was honored at the National Athletic Directors Convention on June 15 in Orlando, Florida. This award marks the first time a Mesa College Student-Athlete has won this National Award.
The award was based on academic and athletic successes and community service involvement and Ian Man is stellar on all fronts. As a student-athlete, she has completed 59 units with a 3.9 GPA while competing with the Mesa Swim team for the past two seasons. As a freshman, Wong was crowned Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) Swimmer of the Year after winning three events (100 IM, 50 Breaststroke, 100 Breaststroke) in the conference finals. Then at the State Championships, she competed in the same three events and finished 9th in the state in the 100 IM. 2015 was another successful conference run for Wong as she took first in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke and second in the 200 IM. She qualified for the State Tournament at East Los Angeles College where she placed 7th in the 200 Breaststroke, 9th in the 100 Breaststroke and 16th in the 200 IM.
