COD Women's Soccer Grabs Hard-Fought Road Win Over Rams
COD (2-3-2, 1-0) opened Conference play with a 2-1 road win over the Victor Valley Rams (0-5-3, 0-1) in Victorville.
The Roadrunners first played Victor Valley in 1998 and hold a 17-25-7 all-time record against the Rams, including a 6-13-6 mark in Victorville.
Victor Valley struck first, beating Roadrunners keeper Alejandra Carrillo in the 5th minute to take a 1-0 lead — a score that held through halftime.
COD answered quickly in the second half. Freshman midfielder Nevaeh Cruz (Palm Desert H.S.) tied it at 1-1 in the 46th minute, her second goal of the season. Then in the 60th minute, sophomore forward Riley Rodriguez (Palm Desert Xavier College Prep) lofted in a pass to freshman midfielder Lesly Aguilar-Hernandez (Cathedral City H.S.), who buried her first collegiate goal to put the Roadrunners ahead 2-1 — the eventual final score.
Sophomore goalkeeper Alejandra Carrillo (La Quinta H.S.) made her sixth start of the season and earned her second win.
Up next, the Roadrunners travel to face the Mt. San Antonio Mounties on October 1. COD first met Mt. SAC in 2017 and is 0-5 all-time against the Mounties, 0-3 in Walnut.
The Roadrunners return home October 2 to host the Norco Mustangs. COD leads the all-time series 8-3-3 since first meeting Norco in 2014, and is 4-0-2 against the Mustangs in Palm Desert. The Roadrunners have not lost to Norco since October 11, 2019.
