SAN JOSE - The VC women's soccer team produced another clean slate in their 1-0 victory at Evergreen Valley Thursday in San Jose. Isa Garcia kept the Hawks scoreless in goal with five saves while Emily Ramirez recorded her first career score for Ventura (3-1) in the Pirates' third straight win.
The teams battled to a 0-0 draw over the first 45 minutes of play.
Ventura broke the ice in the 77th minute of play on a beautiful one-touch combination play with three freshmen, Aailyah Flores to Jennifer Galindo to Ramirez for the score. Galindo was credited with the assist.
The backline play from Karen Saldana, Desire Lopez and Elizabeth Mika was excellent in assisting Garcia to maintain the clean slate. VC also received solid play from midfielders Andrea Ibarra and Elisa Merlos.
Offensively, VC produced 12 shots with five landing on target.
The Pirates remain in Northern California for Saturday's matchup at Hartnell College in Salinas. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
