NorCal, SoCal split spots in top 20 including the four at the top; San Joaquin Delta sits No. 1

SAN BERNADINO - As the calendar approaches another month, it might be easy to look ahead to what is coming down the road: Halloween, Thanksgiving, finals, winter break – and the CCCAA playoffs.

But for the women’s soccer teams in the CCCSIA Top 20 Poll, looking too far ahead at this point in the season might keep them from seeing the challenges coming sooner than the postseason.

The top 8 teams in the weekly poll remained the same – albeit with a couple spots shuffled. But there are some matchups this week that may change that.

No. 1 San Joaquin Delta (14-0-0) gets a double dose of ranked challengers this week in Big 8 Conference play. Tuesday, Delta travels to take on No. 4 Folsom Lake (11-0-2), then, on Friday, it plays host to No. 7 Sierra (12-1-0).

Meanwhile, the trio of Orange Empire Conference teams in the top eight will have the first part of its final stretch of games against one another Friday as No. 3 Saddleback (11-0-2) will host No. 8 Cypress (10-1-1). No. 2 Santiago Canyon (13-0-1) will get those two teams over the final two Tuesdays of the season starting next week.

Delta got seven of the 10 first place votes cast this week, giving it an eight-point advantage over Santiago Canyon, which received two first place votes. Folsom Lake received the other first-place vote.

Ventura (11-2-3) is the only team to fall out of the top 10, dropping to No. 13, as Hartnell (12-2-2) moved up one spot to No. 9. Chaffey (13-3-1) moved up two spots to No. 10.
