Five of six top-ranked teams in CCCSIA Women's Soccer Poll are still unbeaten
Previous polls (CCCSIA): Sept. 9 l Sept. 14 l Sept. 21 l Sept. 27 l Oct. 4
SAN BERNARDINO - While much of the drama around the weekly CCCSIA Women’s Soccer Poll has centered on the Orange Empire Conference, there has been a team up north that has been methodically shutting down every opponent that they step onto the field with.
San Joaquin Delta (12-0) has outscored opponents 65-1 so far this season, have not allowed a goal since their season opener (a 2-1 win over No. 11 Fresno) and have posted a 12-0-0 record. And this week, they were rewarded with the No. 1 spot in the poll of sports information professionals.
The Mustangs received six of the first place votes in this week poll, giving them a slim margin at the top of the poll. And they still have two ranked opponents left on their Big 8 Conference schedule.
Right behind Delta is the trio of OEC teams that are tightly bundled together near the top of the standings.
Santiago Canyon (10-0-1) dropped to No. 2 in the poll, receiving three first place votes. Cypress (8-0-1) is nipping at the Hawks’ heels, just four points behind in the voting, receiving one first place vote. And solidly in the No. 4 spot is Saddleback (8-0-2), which picked up scoreless ties against both Cypress and Santiago Canyon last week. Santiago Canyon hosts Cypress this Friday.
Coast Conference-North leader San Francisco (8-1) takes the fifth spot, while Big 8 Conference has No. 6 Folsom Lake (8-0-2) and No. 8 Sierra (9-1) not far behind.
Rio Hondo sits at No. 7, with Ventura at No. 9 and Hartnell rounding out the top 10.
One of the biggest movers in this week’s poll was College of the Desert. The Roadrunners (9-3) have won seven in a row – including their first win over perennially ranked San Bernardino Valley since 2004. COD moved into the poll at No. 20, and faces its biggest challenge of the season Friday as it hosts No. 13 Chaffey (10-3-1) for the top spot in the Inland Empire Athletic Conference.
