Ventura's Chandler Named NSCAA Scholar All-American
Pirate sophomore Sofia Chandler has been named first-team National Soccer Coaches Association of America Scholar All-American for 2014. She is one of 11 community college players from across the country to be named a first-team honoree. She is the only player from California to be honored on the first-team.
The National Soccer Coaches Association of America recognized select collegiate student-athletes as 2014 NSCAA Scholar All-Americans for their dual accomplishments on the field and in the classroom.
To be named to a Scholar All-America Team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) throughout his or her career; start more than 50 percent of all games and be a significant contributor to the team; and be nominated by an institution that is a current NSCAA College Services member.
Chandler, who prepped at Buena High School in Ventura, is the first Pirate ever to be honored on this team. She maintained a perfect 4.0 GPA through her two years at VC and will travel to Philadelphia to the NSCAA National Convention to receive her award from former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
The NSCAA Scholar All-American Second Team is comprised of three additional CCCAA student-athletes. They are as follows
Rozzlynn Sovereign, Folsom Lake College
Hope Giunti-Vasquez, Feather River College
Jessica Ortega, Chaffey College
