WALNUT, Calif. – Three first-half goals were all the No. 1 seed from the South, Santiago Canyon College (21-0-3) needed to defeat the North's No. 11 seed, Cosumnes River College (11-8-6), 3-1 , on Friday night at Mt. SAC in the CCCAA State Semifinals.
With the win, SCC advances to the state title match on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Hawks will be looking for their first state title since 2006.
Rosario Gonzalez netted the first goal in the sixth minute. The ball was loose in the box and she tapped it in off of the CRC keeper.
The second goal came in the 32nd minute. After a long dribble down the left side, Kaitlin Gishwiller dribbled around a defender and put the ball in the right side of the net.
Just four minute later, Monica Ramirez made it 3-0, shooting 10 yards out after loose ball landed at her feet.
Cosumnes River got on the board in the 57th minute as Erica Lim sent a loose ball to the back right post.
Many more chances came for Cosumnes River in the second half, just missing on a few attempts, one hit the cross bar and several good saves by Casey Pulido in goal for SCC.
