Olympians Take 8 Straight
Nov. 6, 2014 - The Mesa women soccer team has turned on the afterburners in the 2nd half of their season. The team had some tough competition in the beginning of the season and stayed with them but weren't able to get past them. Now the team is faster, stronger, smarter and better and it shows. The Olympians have gone on an 8 game win streak which is the 2nd best streak in Southern California and 3rd in the whole state. In conference play, the women are sitting on the top of the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference South at 6-0 after this week's sound victory over City College in a 5-0 win. The win also improved their overall record to 9-4-3 with only three games left in the regular season. The blue and gold also leads the PCAC South in almost every category including goals (40), goals allowed (14), goal allowed average (.93), and shooting percentage (.702.)
More impressive is the fact that Mesa hasn't allowed a goal to get by them since Oct. 7th which translates to not just eight straight wins, but eight straight shut-outs. Those shut outs can be attributed to Mesa netminder, Yazmin Osorio a sophomore player from Otay Ranch High School. Osorio has logged in 1350 minutes of play and has stopped 72 potential goals. She also has a GAA of .93 and a save % of .847 with three regular season games left to play.
On the offensive side of the ball the Olympians have been their typical brand of speed and precision and have scored 34 goals in their past eight games. Leading the offense has been Andrea Hernandez, a sophomore from. Hernandez leads the team and the conference with eight goals and 2 assists while teammate Sarah Pullmanhas scored six goals for Mesa.
Mesa's next three games will be:
Nov. 7 vs. Southwestern at Mesa 7pm (Last home game)
Nov. 11 vs. MiraCosta at MiraCosta 1pm
Nov. 15 vs. Imperial Valley at Imperial Valley 3pm
