Cerritos College named national champion in women's soccer
For the second consecutive year and the third in the last six years, the Cerritos Collegewomen's soccer team has finished the season ranked No. 1 in the nation.
Two days after capturing the their second straight state championship with a 3-0 win overSantiago Canyon in Sacramento, the Falcons were tabbed the top community college team in Division III (non-scholarship) by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
"This is awesome for Cerritos College and the soccer program," Falcons coach Ruben Gonzalez said. "We're humbled by this honor and it was a great season for us. Every one on the team and staff worked hard all year and this is the end result of those efforts."
Gonzalez, the coach during each of their titles, will accept the award at a ceremony in January in Philadelphia. Last year he was named national coach of the year.
