Palomar wins SoCal Regional Wrestling Championship
Led by three individual champions and 11 state qualifiers, Palomar College compiled 152 team points on Saturday to win the Southern California Regional Team championship at Rio Hondo College.

Led by three individual champions and 11 state qualifiers, Palomar College compiled 152 team points on Saturday to win the Southern California Regional Team championship at Rio Hondo College. Also advancing 11 wrestlers was second place Cerritos College, who had 133 team points and will serve as the host of the CCCAA State Championship next Friday and Saturday. Third place Mt. San Antonio College (116 points) advanced 10 wrestlers, while fourth place Bakersfield College (94.5 points) will be sending nine wrestlers to the state championships.
Winning individual weight championships for the Comets included 133-pound Raul Ortiz, along with 165-pound Mace Anderson and 184-pound Nick Kimball. Ortiz, who was seeded #2, defeated teammate, and top-seeded Erick Marquez, 2-1 in the championship match. At 141 pounds, Eric Reyes reached the finals, but was defeated by Josh Brown of Cerritos for the title. Another Falcon wrestler prevented Palomar from winning another individual title, as Zack Gonzalez defeated Cameron Cox, 13-4 in the 174-pound championship match. At 184 pounds, Palomar's Nick Kimball posted a similar 13-4 score in the finals against Jarron Nunez of Cerritos.
