Defending state champ College of the Canyons remain perfect, take home title at fourth straight event
PALMDALE, Calif. — Sophomore Haruka Koda took home medalist honors in a third straight conference event as College of the Canyons took the top three individual spots and another team victory at Antelope Valley Country Club on Monday.
Canyons carded a four-player score of 312 to outlast runner-up Santa Barbara City College (338). Citrus College (429) was a distant third followed by Bakersfield College (431) in fourth and Antelope Valley College (431) which settled for a fifth after a card-off with the Renegades.
Koda finished an even par round of 72 with teammate Jessie Lin the next closest in second place at a three-over mark of 75.
Paige Heuer tied with another golfer for third place with a score of 79.
Fredeliza Lieberman took eighth with a score of 86.
Shabana Poswal shot a round of 89 but did not factor into COC's final score.
Canyons now boasts a team record of 20-0 to top the Western State Conference (WSC) standings. SBCC is in second place at 16-4 and AVC is third with a 10-10 record.
The Cougars, who also won at the two-day Morro Bay North-South Invitational last week,are back in action at WSC No. 5 on Monday, Oct. 7, at Kern River Golf Course in Bakersfield.
