SOLVANG & DAVIS - Jessie Lin from the College of the Canyons fired a 4-under 140 to capture medalist honors on Monday at the CCCAA Women's Golf SoCal Championship at Alisal River Golf Course in Solvang while Gurman Kaur from Sierra College posted a 10-shot win with her pair of 69s at Wildhorse Golf Course in Davis at the NorCal Championship.
The duo's outstanding play highlighted the regional competition which qualified teams and individuals for the CCCAA Championship at Morro Bay Golf Course in Central California beginning on Sunday.
The top four teams in each event qualified for the state tournament. In the south, top honors went to College of the Canyons (603), which dominated the field to win by 44 strokes over runner-up College of the Desert (647). Santa Barbara City College (659) took third and Saddleback (664) grabbed the final spot.
Lin shot rounds of 69 and 71 to post a five-shot win over teammate Haruka Koda (72-73) and eight shots over Brittney Do (72-76) of Saddleback.
Kaur was the only golfer in the NorCal Championship to break 70, doing it twice to finish at 138. That gave her a decisive win over the rest of the field and helping Sierra (640) to an 11-shot victory over defending state champion Modesto (651).
Reedley (663) grabbed the third berth to the state tournament while Fresno City College (706), which was led by individual runner-up Tammy Lin (71-78), finished fourth. Sierra's Melanie Anderson and Taft's Kaleigh Irey each fired 159 to place next in the standings.
In addition to the top four teams in each region, the top six finishers at each event that were not on an advancing team also qualified for the state championships.
