Bando and Chang Pace Field On First Day Of Competition

MORRO BAY - Carolin Chang shot an even-par round of 72 to lead Santa Barbara City College to a six stroke lead over Cuyamaca College after the first day of the two-day, 36-hole CCCAA women's golf state championship being played on the Morro Bay golf course.
Chang had four birdies and four bogies to balance the scorecard, including a birdie on the 18th hole to finish on a high note. Teammate Vanessa Watkins added a 76 with Savana Boss (81) and Danielle Picard (83) rounding out the team score for the Vaqueros.
Cuyamaca (318) enjoyed three scores in the mid-70's with Leanna Mena (76), Jule Loibl (77), and Melanie Stark (78) finishing in order to help the Coyotes remain in the hunt.
Sierra College's Nao Bando was playing in the same group as Chang and matched her score, finishing 1-under par on the front nine and 1-over par on the back nine to share the top spot on the leaderboard with a 72. Wolverine teammate Gurman Kaur carded a 79 to help Sierra to a 319 team score, seven strokes behind Santa Barbara.
Modesto Junior College (324) is currently in fourth place.
Battling for individual medalist honors behind Chang and Bando are Aman Sangha of Canada College and Araceli Esquivel of Irvine Valley College at 2-over-par 74's with Hannah Lovering of Fresno City College a stroke back at 75.
