Movement all over as Moorpark regains No. 1 rank in sports information's State Top 20
PASADENA - All of the previous top 10 and a dizzying 17 teams switched their spots in a week of upheaval in the new California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) Women's Basketball State Top 20 Rankings. Moorpark garnered 12 of the 16 first-place votes to regain the No. 1 ranking.
The Raiders (22-1) have beaten opponents by 50 or more points five times this season, including scoring a season high in points in a 109-45 win over Oxnard.
The last of the unbeaten is no more as Diablo Valley (22-1) saw its 21-game win streak snapped by new No. 14 Sierra, 68-53. The Wolverines had lost two previous meetings against the Vikings, but found the third encounter the charm. DVC tumbled from its perch and comes in at No. 4 this week. Sierra made the biggest jump in the poll, moving up four spots.
Behind the state's current longest win streak at 17 games, Merced (22-2) took over the NorCal's top spot now at No. 2. East Los Angeles (21-4) also moved up to No. 3 after extended its win streak to 11, including a win over No. 11 Mt. San Antonio. LA Trade Tech climbed to No. 5, holding No. 12 Pasadena City to a season-low in points, 55-41, then posting its sixth 100-plus point win (over Chaffey). With consecutive losses to East LA, Trade Tech, and Mt. SAC, the Lancers plunged five spots.
College of the Sequoias fell one spot to No. 6 while San Joaquin Delta jumped two slots to No. 7, defeating its last two opponents by a whopping combined 158 points. Traveling three spots into the top 10 at No. 8 is El Camino, the top team from the SCC South. City College of San Francisco saw its 12-game win streak stopped by unranked Skyline to fall a spot to No. 9. Skyline also has a win this year over #3 ELAC.
Defending state champion Mt. San Jacinto joins the upper 10 at No. 10 after allowing just 66 points in two conference wins last week.
Moorpark continues to be the RPI ratings leader at .666 and then all four of the top SCC North teams occupy the next four ratings. Merced has the top RPI in the North at .627.
Diablo Valley maintains the state's highest-scoring offense at 89.2 points per game. Sequoias is the new state defense leader at 50.3 points allowed a contest.
