Raiders of the Winning Arc: Moorpark No. 1 in final regular season SIA State Top 20 Women's Hoops ratings
PASADENA - Moorpark College is the team to beat in this week's beginning of the CCCAA Regional Playoffs after claiming by unanimous vote the final regular season No. 1 spot in the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) Women's Basketball State Top 20 Rankings.
The Raiders (28-1) again picked up all 15 first-place votes and capped a perfect Western State Conference North season at 10-0 in ending #13 Ventura's historic 28-year conference title winning streak. Moorpark holds the state's current longest win streak at 12 straight. Diablo Valley proved to be the class of the North with a 27-1 record and the state's No. 2 ranking.
The powerful South Coast Conference North Division placed three in the top 10 in #3 Los Angeles Trade Tech, #6 East Los Angeles, and #8 Mt. San Antonio, a team that climbed four spots into the upper half of the rankings. Central Valley co-champions Merced (#4) and College of the Sequoias (#5) even sported identical overall records at 26-3 each.
The Big 8 Conference placed four teams overall in the top 20 as San Joaquin Delta took #8, Sierra #11 and Sacramento City #18. City College of San Francisco (#9) and defending CCCAA state champion Mt. San Jacinto (#10) continued to occupy spots in the elite top 10.
Pasadena City climbed three spots back to No. 14 in another sign of respect for the SCC North as the Lancers placed fourth in the conference. Cabrillo re-entered the top 20 at #20.
Moorpark and Diablo Valley were their region's respective No. 1 seeds for the postseason.
Diablo Valley has the state's highest-scoring offense at 90 points per game followed by Moorpark at 86.2. Glendale at 49.6 points allowed average leads the state in defense, just ahead of Sequoias at 49.8.
A final overall season Top 20 rankings will be released after the CCCAA State Championships.
