South teams make majority of CCCSIA State Top 20 Women's Basketball ratings
PASADENA - Led by Moorpark's complete stranglehold on the No. 1 spot, the South region makes up 65 percent of this week's California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) Women's Basketball State Top 20 Rankings.
The Raiders (27-1) again picked up all 15 first-place votes as they clinched at least a tie for the Western State Conference North Division title while on an 11-game win streak. While only #3 Los Angeles Trade Tech, #6 East Los Angeles, #9 Mt. San Jacinto, and #10 El Camino are among the top 10, South teams make up eight of the other 10 remaining spots.
The best of the North begins with #2 Diablo Valley, then followed by the Central Valley dynamic duo of #4 College of the Sequoias and #5 Merced. At #7 San Joaquin Delta and then #8 City College of San Francisco, the North may not have a majority overall, but certainly are considered to have more firepower in occupying five top 8 slots and are #11 as well with Sierra.
Ventura had the biggest leap in the rankings, jumping four spots to #13. Glendale also moved up three rankings to #15. Sacramento City had the biggest drop of four spots to #19 while Palomar (#14) and Pasadena City (#17) each tumbled three steps.
With the final week of regular season play, many conferences are going down to the wire as only four--Mt. San Jacinto, Glendale, #18 West Los Angeles, and unranked Solano--thus far have won their titles outright.
Last week's top upset was turned in by unranked Cerritos over El Camino, 78-63.
Moorpark continues to be the RPI ratings leader at .660, followed by LA Trade Tech (.650) and East LA (.645). Diablo Valley is the North's new RPI leader at #5 with a .631 mark.
Diablo Valley maintains the state's highest-scoring offense at 88.3 points per game. Glendale has lowered their state-leading top defense now at 49.4 points allowed average.
