L.A. Trade Tech climbs into top 10 while leaderboard stays the same in CCCSIA hoops poll
PASADENA, Calif. - Sierra continues its hold on the No. 1 spot in this week's 2018 California Community College Sports Information Association State Top 20 Poll. The top six remain in their positions while the undefeated Wolverines (23-0) received 14 of 17 first-place votes.
This Friday, Feb. 2 is the rubber match and third meeting of the season between No. 2 Mt. San Jacinto as it plays PCAC North rival and No. 3 Palomar.
The biggest move was made by Los Angeles Trade Tech as it climbed to a tie with Fresno City for eighth after being in 12th in the opening poll.
Mt. San Antonio, after a shocking 37-point loss at unranked Pasadena City, dropped out of the top 10 to the 14th placing.
Despite a current state No. 1 RPI, Fresno suffered a tough 10-point loss to No. 5 Merced. The Central Valley Conference boasts three teams in the current top 10 as Sequoias is at No. 4. The South Coast features the most top 20 teams with five, but none higher than Trade Tech.
West Los Angeles sneaks on to the poll for the first time at No. 20 with Moorpark dropping out after being 20th last week. Conference updates follow the ranking below:

Bay Valley: Unranked Los Medanos at 9-2 holds a 1/2 game lead over Merritt and a 1 game lead over both Marin and Laney.
Big 8: Sierra is 11-0 to keep a 1 game lead over No. 12 Diablo Valley.
Central Valley: No. 5 Merced is 7-0 and has a 1 game lead over No. 4 Sequoias.
Coast North: No. 6 San Francisco at 6-0 maintains a 1/2 game first place standing over No. 15 Chabot.
Coast South: No. 18 Cabrillo at 7-0 is 1 game ahead of Mission.
Golden Valley: No. 17 Feather River is 5-0 and has just a 1/2 game advantage over No. 13 Siskiyous.
SOUTH
Orange Empire: No. 7 Irvine Valley is 8-0 is 1 game in front of unranked Cypress.
Pacific Coast North: No. 2 Mt. San Jacinto is 4-0 and is two wins ahead in the win column over No. 3 Palomar.
Pacific Coast South: Unranked San Diego City has that exact scenario at 4-0 over both Grossmont and Southwestern.
South Coast North: In what is already shaping up as a 4-team war for first, No. T8 LA Trade Tech (4-0) is the surprise leader, 1 game over No. 11 East Los Angeles.
South Coast South: No. 16 El Camino (3-0) is 1 game in front of both No. 19 Long Beach City and Cerritos.
Western State East: Unranked LA Valley at 5-0 is 1 game in first over Antelope Valley.
Western State North: No. 10 Ventura at 4-0 keeps a 1 game lead over both Moorpark and Allan Hancock.
Western State South: In the only first-place tie in the state, No. 20 West Los Angeles and Canyons are each 3-0.
