CCCAA Women's Basketball: Scoreboard l Standings
EL CAJON, Calif. - Undefeated and ranked No. 1 in the state for what is believed to be the program's first-time ever, Coach Leigh Marshall's Palomar College Women's basketball team opened its' 2018 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference schedule with a workman-like 65-37 win at Grossmont College on Wednesday. Now a perfect 14-0 on the season, the Comets will host Southwestern in a 6:00 p.m. tip-off at The Dome on Friday.
Sophomore guard Monica Todd paced the offense with 16 points, while sophomore forward Nia De La Pina-Thompson and sophomore guard Vinessa Perryman each added 12. De La Pina-Thompson led the team with 10 rebounds to complete a double-double, Todd added seven and Perryman six. Todd also finished with a game-high eight steals.
In the latest California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association poll release January 1, the Comets garnered eight No. 1 votes and 217 voting points to remain above second-ranked Sierra College of Rocklin and third-ranked PCAC Northern Division-rival Mt. San Jacinto College. Palomar is averaging 90.3 points per game while holding its' opponents to 58.6 and has captured championships in four tournaments: the Mt. San Jacinto Lion's Club Tip-Off (Nov. 10-12); the Palomar Comet Classic (Nov. 17-19); The Cypress Lady Charger Classic (Dec. 1-3); and the Erin Tomlinson Orange Coast Christmas Classic (Dec. 18-20).
Last March, CCCWCA Coach of the Year Marshall –now in her eight season at Palomar-- became the first-ever PCAC coach to guide her team to the state's final four, as the Comets completed a 28-3 campaign in the CCCAA semifinal round.
