Huskies new top dog in women's hoop poll
SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The East Los Angeles women's basketball team may have seen its 11-game winning streak to start the season come to an end this past weekend but the Huskies still showed enough with a win over previous No. 1 Sierra to overtake the Wolverines for top spot in the CCCWBCA State Poll, released on Tuesday.
The Huskies edged the Wolverines, 74-69, in a showdown between the top two teams in the poll at the Rams Classic Tournament in San Francisco on Saturday. That pushed East Los Angeles to 11-0 while delivering Sierra its first loss of the year. The Huskies, however, fell in the championship to No. 10 City College of San Francisco, 81-73, in Sunday's championship.
Still, the Huskies' performance was enough to give them the top position in the poll this week. Mt. SAC stayed No. 3 and is followed by the College of the Sequoias and College of the Siskiyous in the top five.
