PASADENA, Calif. - A convincing win by Mt. San Antonio College over East Los Angeles helped the Mounties to a perfect start to their South Coast Conference North Division season last week, pushed them to a 21-1 overall record and delivered them the No. 1 spot in the inaugural state rankings by the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA)on Wednesday.
The state rankings follow up on regional rankings released on Tuesday by the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches Association.
Mt. SAC received 11 of 14 first-place votes in the rankings with Sierra College, from the Big 8 Conference, picking up two to assume the No. 2 spot in the poll. The Wolverines beat Santa Rosa, 68-56, on Tuesday night for their fifth win in a row. East L.A., which rebounded from its 85-62 loss to Mt. SAC to beat Rio Hondo, 68-41, last Friday, is third. Palomar (18-2), winner of 10 in a row, checked into the fourth spot.
College of the Siskiyous moved to 19-1 with a dominating 94-48 victory Golden Valley Conference rival Butte College on Monday, and is fifth in the CCCSIA poll.
College of the Sequoias (18-3), Mt. San Jacinto (19-3), Diablo Valley (19-4), CC San Francisco (18-3) and L.A. Trade Tech (18-3) round out the top 10. The complete poll is below.
