Mineo, Perez nearly perfect in week three
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Zara Mineo and Iris Perez had incredible weeks, leading their squads to a combined 6-0 record, earning California Community College Fastpitch Coaches’ Association Player and Pitcher of the Week.
Mineo was perfect at the plate, going 9-for-9 across three victories for the Long Beach City Vikings. Mineo tallied seven extra base hits including two homers. She added six RBI. The sophomore catcher is now hitting .778 on the season as LBCC sits at 7-0.
Perez completed one of the most difficult feats in softball, a no-hitter. The sophomore blanked San Jose City, helping the Wolverines sweep the Jaguars in a double header. Perez’s lone base runner came via a walk. She notched three strikeouts in her only outing of the weekend.
Other top performances
It was a week of outstanding performances across the state. Addy Finegan from Cuesta went 9-for-16 with five homers including a walk-off blast to defeat Saddleback in extras. Olivia Anderson was electric at the plate and in the circle, hitting .833 and tallying 11 strikeouts in six innings pitched.
Folsom Lake’s Kiley Shea and Mt. San Antonio’s Zoe Herford tallied 20 and 19 strikeouts respectively. Shea pitched 11.1 scoreless while Herford allowed two runs on five hits in 14 innings.
